Magnetic Criteria for Type of Bonding

Magnetic data are often used to distinguish between ionic and covalent bonding. Magnetic moment of [Fe(CN)6]−3 indicated the presence of one unpaired electron whereas, that of [FeF6]−3 indicates the presence of five unpaired electrons. Obviously the nature of bonding in former is covalent and in the latter is ionic. Magnetic Criteria for Type of Bonding
